|Vendor Warning: Fairy Tales & Dragon Scales

Lumos 2006 - I went, I saw, I conquered!
I am cross-posting this from the hp_costuming community. |
It really pains me to post this, but I don't feel there's any choice at this point. In recent months there have been several people that have had, or are continuing to have, trouble with orders they've placed at Fairy Tales & Dragon Scales, http://www.fairytalesdragonscales.com. The proprieter, Jasmine, is not responding to repeated emails, phone calls or snail mail letters. Costume orders are not being filled despite the fact that payment has already been made in full months before.
I am posting this warning for several reasons: Fairy Tales & Dragon Scales (FTDS) is still listed as a vendor at Phoenix Rising and I know that the company is frequently recommended to people looking for custom robes. More than one person has confirmed not receiving their items after payment and the impossibility of getting a response from Jasmine after repeated contact attempts.
I ordered my robes for the Lumos convention from FTDS. They arrived only days before the convention which had me really nervous but they did arrive and they were gorgeous. Based on that, I recommended FTDS to a friend when he wanted robes for PR. He placed his order and paid in full, $177, for the robes back in August 2006. They still have not arrived. Email communication has been spotty to nonexistent from Jasmine.
I won't go into all the details because that would take a novel, but let's just say my friend has made super-human efforts to contact Jasmine. He has called her home, emailed her from multiple email addresses, emailed both of her business email addresses and even contacted a fellow vendor she has shared booth space with in the past. Jasmine has shown a consistent pattern of lieing and non-response. She has lied throughout this entire process, saying the robes were ready when they weren't, saying she'd send them this day or that or claiming that my friend had made changes to the order when he didn't.
I would strongly urge anyone that is having these issues with FTDS to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and if you have already paid for your robes, have not received them and can not contact Jasmine - file a police report. This is theft. There is no pretty way to phrase that.
UPDATE: the oh-so-wonderful Aurora Celeste was kind enough to share a link to a LJ entry she made about different options for those that have been scammed. Anyone that has been scammed by FTDS please go take a look, there's a lot of good info here: http://auroraceleste.livejournal.com/117387.html. PayPal requires notice within 45 days for any claim/complaint about a transaction. Credit Cards require notice within 60 days as do most banks. I'm fairly certain anyone that has been ripped off by FTDS is way past those dates but just in case there's the info. Please share this info with anyone else that might need it. Let's make sure others in the fandom aren't ripped off as well.
